Win Zip Description

This is the latest version of WinZip, the world's most popular file compression and extraction utility. The program's well-developed interface allows you to zip and unzip files with drag-and-drop ease.

By associating the program with common compression types, WinZip automatically goes to work whenever you click a supported file.

The program also integrates into the Windows shell context window, so you can perform many tasks without leaving Explorer.

For distribution, WinZip gives you the ability to create self-extracting EXE files for those without a utility. The program also features automatic built-in disk spanning support for multi-disk Zip files

Among the many compression types, WinZip supports ZIP, TAR, UUencoded, XXencoded, BinHex, MIME, and Unix-compressed files.

LZH, ARC, and ARJ files are supported via external programs. You can easily open an archive and quickly extract it to the directory of your choice. Or, you can edit and insert individual files without having to extract the entire file.

The program actually offers two interface flavors. There's Classic Mode for experienced users and the Wizard Mode for beginners. The Wizard guides the user through each task, from zipping new files to creating them.

Among the new features, the Wizard supports extractions and installations from MIME and other encoded files. Further, it helps users install desktop themes and screen savers (both in Wizard and Classic Modes).
